I had problems after about a month, where in rare instances the GTR’s firmware would become corrupt if the device was unplugged while performing a read/write operation. The status LED would also blink continuously, and the unit would show up on Windows Explorer as a removable device asking for media to be inserted, and it couldn’t be accessed nor formatted.
Since it happens so rarely, I can’t be 100% sure as to the exact set of conditions that trigger the problem, but what I do know is that there’s a utility out there called “IT1168 DtMPTool V1.68.1.0″ which can rewrite the GTR’s firmware and possibly undo the problem (if only temporarily, until the next hiccups). (Hint: Install the utility, run it, use “F3 Enum” to detect the GTR, then right click on the the detected device that shows up on the list and select start.)
Yeah, yeah, spare me the “you’re suppose to shutdown or eject the device using the safe remove USB utility in Windows”. Whatever. My 16GB Dual channel flashdrive from, well, let’s just call it ‘brand x’ has never had this problem since the day I bought it 2 years ago. And that goes for all the other flash drives I use. At worst, they ended up with minor file errors which were easily fixed with Windows Checkdisk.
No matter how you cut it, the controller firmware isn’t supposed to be affected nor is it supposed to be overwritten by read/write interruptions in the flash chip.
Why Corsair doesn’t offer any such utility for firmware recovery boggles the mind. Their solution is to RMA the device… in order to receive another device that might have the same problem at some point in the future.
Another thing I’ve discovered about this flashdrive is its mediocre performance when when handling a large series of write operations, and it also seems to get sluggish at accessing folders when reaching roughly 75% of its storage capacity. If you’re looking for practical speed, I would suggest seeking out drives that handle more operations per second (as opposed to just MB/sec which is really only half the battle).

MY OLD REVIEW:
It is pretty fast, but it better be for the price. Feels more like a hard drive at times than a flash drive. The GTR is a quad channel beast, but to be honest my ‘other brand’ dual channel flash feels more nimble when dealing with a large number of files or operations. Albeit, the GTR can pump a lot of data once it gets going. It does seem to take it’s time when browsing files or starting up an operation, though. (I posted a benchmark of the GTR below).
The GTR is larger than other flash drives that I’ve seen in this category, and it does take up a lot of space when plugging it to the USB ports on any given ATX motherboard. In fact, it will often taking up 2 USB slots. Thankfully, Corsair included a handy little extension to remedy the problem.
This is the first day that I use the GTR so I’m not sure about its long term reliability. It’s definitely not waterproof since water can seep in where the rubber sleeve and the metal connector meet. Also, the internal components don’t appear to shielded by metal or plastic, but I would guess that the thick rubber sleeve is sufficient. I just wonder if the internal PC board could snap in half or dislodge components if the device were ever placed under some situation that caused it to bend in half. After all, the thing is about 3 inches long and it does easily bend down the center.
And the lanyard, well, it’s just too wide and about 2 or 3 inches too short. I find it somewhat uncomfortable to wear around the neck. On the plus side, the wide lanyard along with the GTR’s loud yellow trim housing make for a gadget that practically screams “I’M HERE, DUMB***” when I’m looking for it on my work bench which is usually stacked with computer parts and cables.
Some may wonder about the LED, but it has a very dim blue color, so it’s never annoying.
According to Windows 7 (Ultimate 64bit), using copy/paste procedures to and from the Corsair GTR 32GB shows random program files write at a rate of roughly 15 to 17 MB/s (megabytes), while reads are done at 28 to 32 MB/s. On the other hand, 6-Megabyte sized photos are written at 22 to 24 MB/s, and read at 28 to 31 MB/s.

First Amazon review in a while and this flash drive made me come out the wood-works. I take ALOT along with me: pictures, videos, portable programs, virtual machines, you name it, I carry it around. Wasn’t satisfied with the speed of any of my flash drives, and got tired of lugging around portable hard drives. In comes the GTR! From the reviews I saw online, I was skeptical about how much faster it could be than the dozens of other flash drives I had purchased, I was WRONG! This thing is BLAZING fast!! Put it up against numerous flash drives and its AT LEAST 4 times faster than everything I’ve put it up against. Its solid, its rugged, its big and bright yellow so you won’t leave it anywhere/lose it, and at 32gb it has enough space for 99% of people out there. As of now, I have no complaints. Sure would appreciate a lower price, but you get what you pay for, and honestly, this flash drive IS worth its weight in gold!Corsair 32 GB Flash Voyager GTR USB 2.0 Flash Drive CMFVYA32GBGT2

This is a great USB Flash Drive. Extremely fast at both writing and reading speeds. Would have received 5 stars if the drive was smaller/more compact. Be prepared to accept that this flash drive is at least 30% larger than any other drive you have probably owned. I wish corsair could have made this more compact and would have loved seeing a retractable option as opposed to a cap that I have not lost yet but, am constantly looking for whenever I seem to use the drive. Other than that, this is probably the top rated memory stick on the market at this time.

I got this to store Windows install media content created with MDT2010. It needs to be large enough to store several complete OS’s. It must be fast! USB flash drives are not noted for their speed. 16GB is the minimum size that will satisfy my requirements. I did extensive research on UFD performance. This one came out at or near the top of the current crop, but it was larger than what I needed, and cost more than I wanted to spend. Amazon did offer a lower price than others, and free shipping.
Be warned the device is physically larger than most UFDs, but it comes with a USB cable to partially offset this — at least you can plug it in with the cable where many USB ports are housed together in a congested space. It is a bit large in your pocket (feels like a Swiss Army knife).

This Flash drive feels too big in my hand and it looks very big as well. I like to keep my flash drive on my key chain but it did not come with a key chain clip that clips onto the key ring with rest of my keys. I was also disappointed with the rubber cap because it seems like it can be lost very easily. The rubber cap does not have a locking mechanism to secure it which makes me feel that the flash drive cannot possibly be waterproff. The rubber cap can easily slide off while in my pocket. The only good thing about this flash drive is that it is extremely fast.
